The Umoja family in Kenya gathered Memorial Weekend for Umoja Day to honor the memory of Founder Ellen Daniels-Howell, who passed away two years ago. The day included the grand opening of our new office space in Kenya. The celebration included ten children from each of our 19 partner primary schools, link teachers, head teachers, guardian officials from the primary school guardian groups, secondary day school students, head teachers (principals) of partner secondary schools, county representatives, and other invited guests. More than 500 attended the event.
Each student received two trees, one to plant at school and one to take home. These trees symbolize the growth and reach of the Umoja Project and will provide food and fuel in the future. Ellen also had a love of trees.
