19th School in 2019

School Lunch Program Expands to 19th School in 2019

Global Interfaith Partnership is extending its successful food security program to orphaned and vulnerable children in another primary school in western Kenya. The Umoja Project currently serves lunch to 3,100 students in 18 primary schools. The 19th school, Uradi Primary School, will begin serving lunch to 186 students on January 16, 2019.

The food security program began ten years ago when teachers identified hunger as the main factor causing students to miss school. In addition to school lunch, the Umoja Project works with partner schools to address basic needs of orphaned children and to provide encouragement and emotional support.

Thanks to the support of donors and our partner congregations, the lunch program is fully funded for 2019. Vulnerable students at 19 primary schools in rural western Kenya will be able to focus on their studies, not their hunger. The Umoja Project will now focus on raising funds to make sure all our qualified graduates can move on to secondary school.
